Playland…Entertaining
Families Since 1928
Playland in Rye is Westchester County and the country’s first
planned amusement park. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987,
Playland has entertained millions of visitors for generations. Its charm
and amusements hearken back to the early days of the 20th
century. It is situated on
Long Island Sound and is the most visited Westchester County Park by
residents and non-residents.
Preserving
and Upgrading for the Future
Westchester County has been dedicated to preserving Playland and its
wonderful Art Deco buildings, historic rides and infrastructure. These
projects have been necessary to move Playland into the 21st
century while preserving its charm and integrity. From time to time, we
need your help to guide the future of Playland.
Keeping
Playland Here for Generations to Come
With today’s expectations set by the larger amusement parks, it’s
more important than ever to preserve Playland and keep it a Westchester
County Park for generations to come. We need you to show your support.
We
need your support
Many of Playland’s capital projects cost millions of dollars. It is
a challenge to compete for capital dollars in a county as large and
complex as Westchester. For this reason, periodically we may ask you to
join us in advocating your support of Playland for such projects as the
rebuilding of the famous Art Deco columns and colonnades that are
synonymous with the Playland experience.
From time to time,
there has been a debate about the wisdom of Westchester County operating
an amusement park. When this debate arises, we would like to be able to
call on you to support the future of Playland. We want Playland to remain
open and continue to be a Westchester County Park for generations to come.
