Fifteen young friends, third-graders from the Columbus Elementary School in Thornwood, and their principal Mimi Iannuzzi, donated their pennies and deposited them in specially-created donation boxes and coin canisters to kick off a new Pennies for Parks campaign to help keep Westchester’s parks clean, green and growing. Donation boxes will be distributed in parks throughout the county this summer. Read more

The children joined Friends of Parks President Judy Matson and County Executive Andy Spano at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla to launch an aggressive fundraising effort that includes the establishment of a Tree Trust and Future Forests Fund and a major enhancement and preservation program.

The Friends has set a goal to raise $1 million over the next 12 months through Pennies for Parks and other fundraising initiatives.
